This yo-yo has been used but no abused.  Doesn't look like anyone walked the dog with it, which is often the downfall of wooden yo-Yos.  But there are some minor blemishes, but the red seal is in good condition.  No chips in the paints but could use a gentle cleaning.

It has SWEDEN embossed into the back.  Which is pretty cool if you know the history.  This is what Gemini (ai) says about it:

If you have an old wooden yoyo with "Sweden" stamped on the back, you likely have a Kalmartrissan, a legendary piece of Swedish toy history.

Here is why those yoyos are so common and why they say "Sweden":

The Elfverson Connection

In the early 1930s, a Swedish company called Elfverson & Co began mass-producing these yoyos in the city of Kalmar. They were unique because they were turned from a single piece of wood (usually birch or beech), whereas most yoyos at the time were two separate halves glued to an axle.

The "Sweden" stamp became a hallmark of quality for two main reasons:

  • Mass Export: Between the 1930s and the 1950s, Elfverson exported millions of these yoyos to the United States and Canada. Because they were imported goods, they were required by law to state their country of origin.

  • The "Sweden Yo-Yo" Brand: In North America, they were often marketed simply as "The Sweden Yo-Yo." They were so popular that even American giants like Duncan and Canadian brands like Cheerio contracted Elfverson to manufacture yoyos for them. These yoyos would have the American brand's logo on the front and "Made in Sweden" on the back.
