Featherspin Throws The Ibis - Bi-Material

Ibis is, in many ways, a small tribute to my home.

Inspired by Wilmington, North Carolina, and its theme draws from the elegance of Art Deco mid-century design, borrowed from both the ibis bird and my favorite local haunt, "The Ibis"; a coffee and cocktail bar filled with records, warm light, and a particularly fine espresso martini. That martini helped inspire the shape itself: full and rounded, yet light in character, much like the dark body of the drink beneath its delicate crown of froth.

The profile also offers a quiet homage to the YoYoJam designs of years past, and a recall to simple pleasures of carrying one along on childhood trips to the beach. The whole world was sand, salt water, sunlight, and none of it asked anything from him; everything difficult belonged to someone older.

Its colorways: Wrack Line, Shell Island, and Mud Flats, take their names from the familiar shores and landscapes around Wilmington. Look closely at the artwork and you’ll find other small pieces of my home: Palm Tree Island and its unmistakable parking meter, the rolling surf of Shell Island, and other details tucked quietly throughout.

The Ibis was made to carry a sense of place, memory, and nostalgia.

The Ibis is a full 7075 aluminum construct with a POM outer shell, with a little hollow space between the two.
