Hspin x C3yoyodesign: Antipodal Point
Global Collaboration! Unexpected Innovation!
Collaboration between Switzerland, France, and Hong Kong, part of C3's special 15th anniversary project! Designed by Hspin's designer and four-time French 1A champion Hadrien Bennaceur, along with C3 designer Ron Chan, this is a major upgrade after 14 years-introducing the "Antipodal Point"!
The "Antipodal Point" inherits various classic elements from Hadrien's signature yo-yo "Antipodes", reimagined with a 7075 aluminum body, a polycarbonate outer ring, and the heart of Hspin yo-yos-a Size-D bearing-combined with C3's modern design language. It's truly a remarkable combination!
With a small and agile multi-faceted rounded shape for ultimate comfort, the unique explosive power of Hspin's Size D bearing, along with a smooth grooved area, and the distinctive weight distribution from the 7075 aluminum paired with the PC outer ring, it offers an incredibly lightweight feel while maintaining a substantial weight sensation!
Specs:
Weight: 64.3g
Diameter: 52.88mm
Width: 46.52mm
Material: 7075 Aluminum YoYo with PC Rings
The following is the FULL STORY told by the main character, Hadrien Bennaceur.
I grew up near the English Channel in the north of France, spending summers near the ocean at my grandparents' place as a kid. As I was practicing reading boat names, one name, one word in particular, would stick with me for many years to come: Antipodes.
The idea of exploring and reaching the diametrically opposed location on the globe-the two locations being the "Antipodal Points".
In 2011, my signature series yo-yo from Hspin, the "Antipodes", was released. Unfortunately, all yo-yos came with "a flaw to love" due to production issues. Although we received many praises, as the yo-yos could be tuned to a satisfactory state of play, the full potential of the "Antipodes" would never be attained.
I only have one perfect prototype with me today, and I can't remember if there are any others somewhere in the world. That one prototype I received when I was living in Zhuhai, China, 14 years ago. At the time, I would take the boat on the weekend and go to Hong Kong, where I would spend weekends playing yo-yo, eating dim sum, and having fun with the C3 team.
The "Antipodes" was first played within the Hong Kong player community.
Fast forward to 2023: I tell Walter I want to make an "Antipodes 2". He tells me the 15th year of C3 is coming. That's how it started.
This is not the "Antipodes 2"-this is the "Antipodal Point".
Start from the "Antipodes" dimensions that felt so good in the hand.
Modernize the outer profile with C3 lines but keep the wing of the "Antipodes" for maximum comfort.
Move weight off the hub area while maintaining its overall design.
Keep the Hspin combo "D bearing + grooved area" for limited friction and fast acceleration.
Adapt the wing for a PC ring and increase the width of the yo-yo without affecting weight distribution.
Test proto 1 and validate for production run.
We hope you enjoy.
