Duncan Freehand Freakhand Edition Yo-Yo
The Freehand is that it was the original yo-yo designed for Counterweight Play, also known as 5A Style.
Design and Construction
The Freehand's design has evolved over the years, but the core features of the modern plastic versions (like the Freehand One or Freehand Pro) typically include:
| Feature | Detail |
| Material | Durable Plastic (Polycarbonate/ABS) |
| Shape | Step Straight / Flared Profile (for easy string catches) |
| Bearing | Ball Bearing (Usually Size C, sometimes a narrow, responsive C-size) |
| Response | Recessed response system, typically using SG Stickers or Slim Pads. |
| Weight | 64gs a good weight for stability and 5A play). |
| Aesthetics | Features really cool and freaky side caps . Some of our favorite artwork on a yo-yo. |
Responsiveness
The Freehand series is produced in both responsive and unresponsive versions:
Beginner/Intermediate (Responsive): The base Duncan Freehand (or Freehand One) often comes set up with a thinner bearing (Size C- or narrow C) and thick pads/stickers. This makes it a tug-responsive yo-yo, perfect for beginners who want to learn both basic sleeper tricks and the fundamentals of 5A before moving to a bind.
Advanced (Unresponsive): Models like the Freehand Pro are typically set up with a wider, full-size (unresponsive) Size C bearing, requiring the bind trick to return, which is necessary for high-speed, long-spinning competition-level 5A tricks.
The Duncan Freehand is celebrated as an enduring classic—the artwork alone makes t very desiteable among collectors.
