Vintage Yomega Firestorm Yo-Yo Gold - Ban Dai 1999 - Very Good Condition
The Yomega Firestorm is a classic plastic yo-yo that played a significant role in the late 1990s yo-yo boom. Bandai (the Japanese toy giant that partnered with Yomega), sold this version in Japan.
Bandai
During the 1990s, Yomega partnered with Bandai to bring their yo-yos to the Japanese market under the "Hyper Yo-Yo" brand. Many vintage Firestorms found today feature Bandai branding or were sold in Bandai packaging. Many believe this partnership was a major factor in making yo-yoing a global phenomenon in the 90s.
Technical Specifications
The original Firestorm was designed as an upgrade to the basic fixed-axle yo-yo, sitting somewhere between a beginner model and a professional competition throw.
-
Axle System: It uses a plastic transaxle (a plastic sleeve over the metal axle). This allows the yo-yo to "sleep" (spin at the end of the string) significantly longer than traditional yo-yos.
Response System: It features a starburst response, which are raised ridges on the inner walls that catch the string to make the yo-yo responsive.
Shape: It has a "modified" or slim profile, which is optimized for 2A (looping) tricks rather than complex string tricks.
All in all, this is a true classic with a lot of history. This on has minor scratches but overall er good condition. It is marked 1999.
